2026-27 Road Cycling Transfer Market: Roglič and the Big Moves
The 2026 transfer window reshaped several WorldTour rosters for 2027. Lidl-Trek was the busiest buyer, Tudor and Pinarello Q36.5 kept spending, and UAE Team Emirates-XRG tied its biggest names to long contracts. The biggest open question, Primož Roglič's next team, was still unresolved in early October. This recap separates moves the teams have officially announced from those that have only been reported, as of 8 October 2026.
Key Takeaways
- Roglič is leaving Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe at the end of 2026, according to team CEO Ralph Denk on record in July. As of 7 October he had not announced a 2027 team; Tudor, Lotto-Intermarché and Pinarello Q36.5 have been reported as options.
- Lidl-Trek was the most active buyer, officially signing Felix Gall and Gregor Mühlberger (from Decathlon CMA CGM) and Igor Arrieta (from UAE Team Emirates-XRG).
- Tudor added Arnaud De Lie (from Lotto-Intermarché, through 2030) and Kaden Groves (from Alpecin-Premier Tech, through 2029), with Nico Denz.
- UAE locked in Tadej Pogačar to 2032, announced on 5 September alongside extensions for Jhonatan Narváez and Nils Politt to 2029.
- Several big moves are reported but not announced, including Ben O'Connor to Decathlon and Markel Beloki to Netcompany INEOS.

Roglič: Still the Big Open Question
Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe CEO Ralph Denk confirmed on record in early July 2026 that Roglič's contract "ends on 31 December" and that he wants to continue racing. We found no formal team press release.
After winning the European road race title on 7 October, Roglič said: "we haven't decided yet what I'll do next". Press reports in early October named Tudor as the frontrunner, with Lotto-Intermarché and Pinarello Q36.5 also linked, and La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that a decision would come after the World Championships. Until a team announces him, any destination is speculation.

Extensions: Who Stayed
| Rider | Team | Contract to | Announced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tadej Pogačar | UAE Team Emirates-XRG | End of 2032 | 5 Sep 2026 |
| Jhonatan Narváez | UAE Team Emirates-XRG | End of 2029 | 23 Jun 2026 |
| Nils Politt | UAE Team Emirates-XRG | End of 2029 | 5 Jun 2026 |
| Jai Hindley | Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe | "Long-term" (length not disclosed) | 7 Jul 2026 |
| Natnael Tesfatsion | Movistar | End of 2028 | 6 Oct 2026 |
Pogačar's extension was announced together with the news that he would miss the rest of 2026 after crashing out of the Vuelta. Press reports have quoted salary and buyout figures for his deal, but none has been confirmed by the team.
Two names often listed as 2026 re-signings were not. Jay Vine's UAE contract to the end of 2027 was announced in May 2023, and Remco Evenepoel's move to Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe was announced in August 2025 and began in 2026.
EF Education-EasyPost said on 30 January 2026 that Richard Carapaz and four teammates had signed long-term extensions. Since August, several outlets have reported that Carapaz is still likely to leave, but nothing has been announced.
Reported, Not Yet Announced
These moves have been widely reported but had no team announcement as of 8 October:
- Ben O'Connor (Jayco AlUla → Decathlon CMA CGM): first reported by L'Équipe on 3 July. L'Équipe also reported signings of Pavel Sivakov and Louis De Plus for Decathlon.
- Markel Beloki (EF → Netcompany INEOS): a three-year deal reported by Marca and AS in May.
- Egan Bernal: reported on 7 October to have agreed terms for a three-year extension with Netcompany INEOS, but also to be considering retirement; the team has made no announcement.
- Paul Seixas: contracted to Decathlon CMA CGM until the end of 2027, and he has said he will honour it. Reports say Decathlon has offered an extension and other teams are interested for 2028; figures quoted in the press have not been confirmed.

A running roundup by In de Leiderstrui also lists moves including Ben Turner to Soudal Quick-Step, Jordi Meeus to Lidl-Trek, Fabio Jakobsen to Visma | Lease a Bike, Georg Steinhauser to Red Bull, Kasper Asgreen to NSN, Ethan Hayter to Pinarello Q36.5 and Magnus Sheffield to Uno-X. We have not checked each against team announcements.
Who Is Spending
Lidl-Trek was the busiest WorldTour team, adding a Grand Tour contender in Gall, an experienced climber in Mühlberger, a young all-rounder in Arrieta and, according to the roundup, sprinter Jordi Meeus.
Tudor Pro Cycling made two of the window's headline sprint signings, De Lie on a contract running to 2030 and Groves to 2029, plus Nico Denz.
Pinarello Q36.5 added Mauro Schmid and, according to the roundup, Ethan Hayter, continuing its move up the sport.
NSN Cycling Team signed climber Santiago Buitrago and Lennert Van Eetvelt for 2027, and the roundup lists Kasper Asgreen joining too.
| Team | Confirmed 2027 additions (announced) |
|---|---|
| Lidl-Trek | Felix Gall, Gregor Mühlberger, Igor Arrieta |
| Tudor Pro Cycling | Arnaud De Lie, Kaden Groves, Nico Denz |
| Pinarello Q36.5 | Mauro Schmid |
| NSN Cycling Team | Santiago Buitrago, Lennert Van Eetvelt |

What the busiest buyers ride
A transfer also means a change of equipment. The four teams that made the most officially announced signings ride different bikes, according to their own websites, but they have one thing in common: all four list SRAM as a partner.
| Team | Bike | Groupset | Wheels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lidl-Trek | Trek Madone | SRAM | Bontrager Aeolus |
| Tudor Pro Cycling | BMC Teammachine | SRAM | DT Swiss |
| Pinarello Q36.5 | Pinarello DOGMA F | SRAM | Not listed on the team site |
| NSN Cycling Team | SCOTT | SRAM | Zipp |
That matters most for riders crossing from the Shimano side. Igor Arrieta leaves UAE Team Emirates-XRG, which races Colnago bikes with Shimano groupsets, for Lidl-Trek's Trek and SRAM set-up. Felix Gall and Gregor Mühlberger stay on SRAM, because Decathlon CMA CGM switched to SRAM drivetrains for 2026. Riders and mechanics usually adapt to new shifters, positions and wheel choices over the winter training camps, before the first races of the new season.
The photos in this article are official equipment and brand photos from these companies, not race photos. Trek and Pinarello sell team replica versions of their bikes; NSN rides SCOTT bikes, but SCOTT does not name an NSN replica, so the SCOTT photo shows the Foil RC in a general brand shot.
Contract Lengths at a Glance
Long contracts were a theme of the window. Among the officially announced deals:
| Rider | Team | Runs to |
|---|---|---|
| Tadej Pogačar | UAE Team Emirates-XRG | 2032 |
| Arnaud De Lie | Tudor Pro Cycling | 2030 |
| Felix Gall | Lidl-Trek | 2029 |
| Igor Arrieta | Lidl-Trek | 2029 |
| Kaden Groves | Tudor Pro Cycling | 2029 |
| Santiago Buitrago | NSN Cycling Team | 2029 |
| Jhonatan Narváez | UAE Team Emirates-XRG | 2029 |
| Nils Politt | UAE Team Emirates-XRG | 2029 |
| Lorenzo Milesi | Soudal Quick-Step | 2029 (reported release) |
| Gregor Mühlberger | Lidl-Trek | 2028 |
| Natnael Tesfatsion | Movistar | 2028 |
| Iván García Cortina | Alpecin-Premier Tech | 2028 (reported release) |
Teams are clearly committing to riders for longer. A four- or five-year contract gives a team stability for building a Grand Tour or Classics programme, and gives riders security; it also makes mid-contract transfers, which are rare in cycling, even less likely.
Young riders and development teams
Not every signing was a star. Movistar announced on 26 June that Jerónimo Calderón (from Team Sistecrédito) would join its development academy for 2027 and 2028, and Visma | Lease a Bike announced on 11 July that junior Thijs Wiersma (from JEGG-SKIL-DJR) would join its development team for two seasons. Development pathways like these are increasingly how WorldTour teams find their future leaders.
Retirements
The roundup lists several riders retiring at the end of 2026, including Mikel Landa (moving into a role with Euskaltel), Nairo Quintana, Bauke Mollema, Pello Bilbao, Damiano Caruso and Steven Kruijswijk. Chris Froome confirmed his retirement at a Škoda event in Barcelona on 2 July 2026, two days before the Tour's Grand Départ.
How to Read Transfer News
- Trust the team announcement. A move is confirmed when the team publishes it. Until then, treat even strong reports as provisional.
- Check the dates. Many "new" extensions in round-ups were signed years earlier, like Vine's in 2023.
- Look for contract length. Official releases usually state when a deal ends; reported figures for salaries and buyouts rarely come from the teams.
- Watch the origin team. Several round-ups listed Arrieta as coming from Netcompany INEOS; Lidl-Trek's release says he made his WorldTour debut with UAE.
- Expect late moves. Big decisions, like Roglič's, often wait until after the World Championships.

Verdict
The 2026 window confirmed a shift in power: Lidl-Trek, Tudor, Pinarello Q36.5 and NSN all bought strongly, while UAE secured Pogačar until 2032. The biggest remaining question is Roglič, and the safest way to follow it, and the other unannounced moves, is to wait for the teams' own announcements.
